Depending on Where You Live, Mosquito Season Is Here (Or Wrapping Up) — Either Way, Now's the Time to Act

Mosquito season doesn't follow the same calendar everywhere. Whether you're gearing up in the US, Canada, or UK — or wrapping up in Australia and New Zealand — here's how to add mosquito services or tighten up what you're already doing.

Mosquito season doesn't follow the same calendar everywhere. If you're running a pest control business in the US South, your phone is probably already ringing. If you're in Canada or the UK, you've got a few weeks to get ready. And if you're in Australia or New Zealand, you're coming off a busy summer and heading into the quieter months.

No matter where you are, right now is the time to either gear up or lock in what you learned this past season.

Northern Hemisphere: Your Season Is Starting

US South (Gulf Coast, Southeast, Texas): Mosquito season is already underway. Warm temps and spring rain have kicked things off. If you haven't started booking mosquito treatments, you're already behind your competitors.

US Midwest, Northeast, and West: You've got until April or May before things ramp up, depending on your area. Use the next few weeks to get your mosquito program dialled in.

Canada: Most of the country won't see serious mosquito activity until May or June, but the season is getting longer every year thanks to milder winters. If you haven't offered mosquito services before, this is a low-risk year to test it.

UK: Mosquitoes aren't the first thing people think of in British pest control, but the market is growing. Warmer, wetter summers mean more mosquito complaints — especially in southern England and around standing water. Season typically runs June through September. Now is the time to decide if you're adding it to your service list.

If You're Not Offering Mosquito Services Yet

Check your licensing. Requirements vary by country and region — in the US it's typically a state-level pest control licence category; in the UK you'll want to be BPCA-qualified; in Australia and NZ, check your state or regional EPA requirements.

Keep your service model simple. A barrier spray programme using a backpack mist blower is all you need to start. Treat the yard perimeter, garden beds, under decks, and any standing water areas. Most operators run a 21-day cycle through the season.

Price it right. Residential mosquito treatments typically run $75–$125 USD per visit (adjust for your local market). A seasonal package of 6–8 treatments at a slight discount gives you predictable recurring revenue and locks customers in.

Sell to your existing customers first. You already have the trust and access. A quick message — "We're offering mosquito treatments this season, want me to add you?" — is all it takes.

Southern Hemisphere: Your Season Is Winding Down

Australia: You've just come through the peak mosquito months (November–March). The season is tapering off as temperatures cool, but in northern Queensland and the Top End, mosquitoes are a year-round concern.

New Zealand: Similar timing — peak season runs December through March. As autumn settles in, mosquito activity drops off, especially in the South Island.

What to Do Right Now

Don't just let the season end and forget about it. This is the best time to:

Lock in renewals. Reach out to this season's mosquito customers now with a "ready to get back on the schedule?" message. Getting a yes now means your route is half-full before next season even starts.

Review what worked. Which products performed best? Which areas had callbacks? Which customers were the most profitable? Write it down while it's fresh.

Upsell for the off-season. Your mosquito customers already trust you. Offer them general pest control, rodent prevention for winter, or spider treatments — whatever's relevant in your market.
